Toxic Backlink Detection and Use of Google Disavow Tool

How to Get Rid of External Links Poisoning Your Domain Authority?

In the past, the belief was that "there is no such thing as bad links", until Google's Penguin Algorithm confirmed that Spam / Toxic (Poisonous) backlinks can destroy the credibility (Trust Score) of your site (Negative SEO). Especially in competitive niche areas, rival sites may suddenly connect (attack) your link from thousands of cheap outsourcing, gambling or betting sites in order to tarnish your domain. This will cause your site to be directly categorized as "Cannot be trusted" and cause heavy ranking losses.

How to Identify Toxic Links?

Backlink audit is about understanding profiles, not just collecting numbers. The following link structures should be on your first suspicious radar:

  • Auto-generated blog platforms or forum signature sections (profile promotions) with high amounts of low DA (Domain Authority) / Spam Score ratios through the roof.
  • Links that have no relevance (for example, you sell shoes, anchors come from an electronic spare parts site in China).
  • Hard link disproportion based on "Keyword": Does 90% of your profile consist of links based on the same word ("cheap clothing tricks")? Google flags this link profile as direct artificial / manipulated links sold for money. In a natural backlink profile, bare URL matches like your brand and “Click here” are much more common.

Burning Bridges with Google Disavow Tool

When you find toxic links, the best move is to ask webmasters to delete them. However, this becomes impossible on thousands of sites. The "Disavow Tool" launched by Google allows site owners to say "Dear Google, do not count the reference (link) points coming to me from the sites or root domains in this text file I have listed while indexing your site."

  • Compile toxic links into .txt file. If you want to reject all subdomains, be sure to add them to the list in the format "domain:site.com"
  • Select your property by entering the Google Disavow Link tool, which is excluded from the Search Console panel, and upload this .txt file to the system.
  • Big Warning: This procedure involves very sharp surgical scissors. If, while trying to improve, you remove your old valuable backlinks that really pump authority to your site and come naturally but of low quality, your ranking will drop forever. Use the Disavow team as a 'Last Resort' prescription rather than a permanent one (except for spam attacks and in cases where you receive a warning).
