Canonical URL

A method of informing search engines of the 'preferred' original URL of a page via the rel=canonical HTML tag. It prevents duplicate content problems. It should be self-referential canonical on every page, point to the HTTPS version, and not conflict with hreflang tags. The use of canonical is critical in all different URLs such as www vs non-www, trailing slash, utm parameter variations.
