Secure Sockets Layer / Transport Layer Security — protocols that encrypt communication between the web server and the browser. SSL is no longer used, replaced by the more secure TLS (1.2 and 1.3). Required for HTTPS. Google considers the use of HTTPS a low-weight ranking signal. Keep track of your site's certificate expiration dates.
